Help us understand how your drinking water is supplied
We are carrying out a Drinking Water Assessment for the Central Otago District and hope that you will get involved. To get a complete picture, we need information from people who are not connected to a CODC water supply.
If you've received a letter or email from us, it's because we believe your property may be on a community, private, or other non-council water supply. We don't always have complete records for these supplies, so we're asking for your help to fill in the gaps.
You can help by completing a short survey about your water supply. It will only take a few minutes, and every response helps.
Why we're doing this
Drinking water comes from a mix of sources. Many people are connected to council supplies, but others rely on other sources such as community or private systems. This assessment is about building our understanding of where properties across the district get their drinking water. The information will help us to:
identify potential risks to drinking water quality and reliability
better support communities to keep drinking water safe
plan for future infrastructure and investment needs
meet the district's legal obligations to report on drinking water services
This assessment is required under the Local Government (Water Services) Act 2025. The information will be used to prepare a Drinking Water Assessment for the district. The information may be shared with the national drinking water regulator, Taumata Arowai.
How to get involved
If you have received a letter from us, we ask that you please click here to complete the survey to tell us about your drinking water supply. Providing this information is voluntary but we would appreciate your help. The survey closes at 8am, Monday 8 June.
Need more information?
If you have any questions or would prefer to complete the survey another way, please contact us at water@codc.govt.nz
We appreciate your time and assistance with this important work.
We take your privacy seriously. Any personal details you provide will remain confidential. The results will be collated in a summary report by community that will include key themes that come through in the comments. The data will be used for assessment and planning purposes only.
Please note that comments received for any survey are considered official information and may be released if requested under the Local Government Official information and Meetings Act 1987 (LGOIMA).
