Our Public Libraries are more than a place for books, they are creative spaces for learning and connection.

Central Otago is growing and changing quickly. Over the next decade, shifts in population, technology, and community expectations will influence how people live, learn, and connect. Our libraries are ready to evolve with this change. They’re already woven into everyday life as places to learn, create, relax, discover new ideas, and feel part of our district’s diverse communities. From our busy town centres to our rural heartlands, libraries are here for everyone, no matter your age, interests, or location.

Libraries are for everyone

Whether you visit weekly, occasionally, or haven’t been to a library for a while, we want to hear from you. Your perspective matters. Together, we can shape a district‑wide vision that supports learning, wellbeing, creativity, and connection.

Let’s imagine the future
What could our libraries look like in the next 10–20 years?
What should they offer?
How can they better support you, your whānau, and your community?

We invite you to think big and help design libraries that reflect the heart of Central Otago: innovative, welcoming, and built for a growing district.

How to get involved

There's lots of ways to provide feedback until 10 April 2026. Bring your ideas - big or small - to our libraries and add them to our '100 Great Ideas' board. Complete the survey below or pick up a hard copy from any Council Service Centre or Library.

We take your privacy seriously. Any personal details you provide will remain confidential. The results will be collated in a summary report that will include key themes that come through in the comments.

Please note that comments received for any survey are considered official information and may be released if requested under the Local Government Official information and Meetings Act 1987 (LGOIMA).

Please read our privacy policy before you begin.
